Now that you know the answer, let’s understand What is SIPOC:

SIPOC is an abbreviation for Supplier, Input, Process, Output and Customer. This is one of the scoping tool to slice and dice the project. Now what do we mean by slide and dice the project? Whenever we have to take a project, we need to take a project that we can handle. It should not happen that we take up a bigger project and we get into our band width limitation. So it is always advisable to take a project that we can complete in time with the positive results. This motivates the team to take the next project and also brings in confidence in the team members and the organization. So SIPOC is used in the Define Phase to properly scope the project.

How to prepare a SIPOC

So when we are using this scoping tool of SIPOC, this helps us to under the value chain in a better way. Though it is mentioned as SIPOC, but when it is prepared, we first start from P (Process). The macro-map of the process is prepared and for that process the (I) Inputs are identified. For each of the input, S (Suppliers) are mapped. Likewise, for each process, the O (Output) is mapped and for each output, C (Customers) are mapped. So this is how a SIPOC is prepared.
